File manager including CD burning
SiteKiosk's File Manager provides limited as well as secure file operations. File Manager is NOT identical to Microsoft's Windows Explorer / File Manager and represents an independently developed solution. The option to burn CD-Rs (at a charge) is limited to users who work on computers running WindowsXP/Vista with connected CD/DVD burners.

File Manager options
Configure access to paths/drives File Manager basically limits a user's access to drives, paths, and folders. If you permitted Downloads, File Manager will automatically display the specified download folder. You can add additional folders and drives to which you want to grant your users access under SETTINGS (Please always add a backslash to the end of a drive or folder path!). Removable Storage Media is recognized automatically and available if allowed.
Removable Storage Media At times, you might want to grant your users access to removable media volumes they brought with them, for instance, if you want them to be able to save the files they created to a USB memory stick or if you want to allow them to upload the pictures stored on their own SD cards to a computer and to burn them to a CD. To grant your users this kind of access, you will need to turn off the checkbox "Lock workstation when removable disk is attached" under Access. No additional settings are necessary.
Note:
If a removable storage medium is connected, it might take some seconds until the File Manager appears. You will not have to add removable storage media to the list of allowed drives in the File Manager settings!
Allow launch of executable files (.exe, .com, .bat, .cmd) For security reasons, you might want to disable this option to prevent users from executing files they downloaded from the Internet. Even though this feature should not cause any problems if your users operate as limited users, you should be aware of the possible security risks connected with this function before turning on its checkbox. Other file types such as .gif, .jpg, .png, .mpg, .wav, .avi, .txt, .xml, etc. can be launched directly from within File Manager, allowing your users to view the pictures, music files, texts, and video they downloaded from the Internet.
Executing and displaying other file types (.gif, .jpg, .mpg, etc.) Other file types, like .gif, .jpg, .png, .mpg, .wav, .avi, .txt, .xml, etc., can be executed directly from within File Manager. Users will now be able to download and view images, music files, texts, and videos.
Important note
To be able to manage file types (e.g. .mpg, .wav), you have to make sure not to link the file type with a different application. For instance, this applies to .mpg files if Windows Media Player is installed. A file stored on the Internet will then be directly played back by Media Player when downloaded. To prevent this from happening, procede as follows: Right-click into the upper window title of Media Player, select TOOLS->OPTIONS->FILE TYPES and turn off all checkboxes for the relevant file types. The corresponding file types will then no longer be linked with Media Player and can be managed, executed, and burnt with File Manager.
Important note
If Microsoft Office and/or OpenOffice are installed, associated files (doc,xls,ppt,pps,rtf,sxw,odt,dot,ods,sxc,odp,sxi,ott,stw,otp,sti) are opened with these applications automatically, for e.g. doc files this would be Wordpad if Office is not installed. In this case you should add the application to the list of external applications in the SiteKiosk configuration.
If this automatic process is not wanted, open the file ..\SiteKiosk\Skins\Public\Media\FileManager\XML\Config.xml with an editor and remove the line: <extension types="doc,xls,ppt,pps,rtf,sxw,odt,dot,ods,sxc,odp,sxi,ott,stw,otp,sti" useregistry="true" />.
Linking and executing file types using third-party applications If you insert the following paragraph (edited to match your desired application) into the file SiteKiosk\Skins\Public\Media\FileManager\XML\Config.xml, located in SiteKiosk’s installation folder, you will be able to launch, for example, WinZip files from within the file manager:
<extension types="zip">
<onload>
var WshShell = new ActiveXObject("WScript.Shell");
WshShell.Exec("C:\\Program Files\\WinZip\\winzip32.exe \"{1}\"");
</onload>
</extension>
Note that the path to WinZip has to match your system. The entry MUST be inserted before the entry
<extension types="*">
Proceed in the same way when specifying other file types, i.e. always set the path to the program that is supposed to open the extension.

Opening Microsoft Office directly in the SiteKiosk browser
Important This option is only available for links opened directly in the SiteKiosk browser. For more information, refer to Downloading files - item 5

CD recording options (WindowsXP/Vista only)
Allow recording of CD-ROMs Provided a CD burner is connected to the computer, you can allow your users to burn CDs under WindowsXP. Your users will then be able to add files to a virtual burning folder and to burn these files to a CD. If you employ SiteKiosk's Payment Bundle, you can set up a charge for each burning process under Payment Devices / Service Rates.
Show copyright notice Turn this option on to display a copyright notice prior to each burning process. This notice will inform your users that they are not allowed to duplicate any material protected by copyright regulations. We would like to draw your attention to the fact that displaying this notice will not release you from your obligation to prevent your users from violating any copyright laws. You can edit the copyright notice by pressing the EDIT button.
