Specifying Your Start Page

The Start Page is of particular importance.
It is the first page the user will see after the browser has been started. It is also the page that will appear every time the user clicks either on the Home button or on Logout in the toolbar.

Choose between predefined start pages (templates) or your own Web sites stored on your local hard drive or on the Internet.

Use Start Page Templates

If you have already created your own start page and saved it to your hard drive or uploaded it to the Internet, SiteKiosk will allow you to use start page templates that ship with the software.

    Customize
SiteKiosk lets you customize the content of the templates without requiring you to have programming skills. The extent to which you can adjust the content will depend on the individual template.
As the start pages were created with the help of HTML/JavaScript/SiteKiosk Objectmodel, better skilled users will be able to implement even more adjustments using an editor.

Use Start Page Address

    Protocol
The Start Page can be located on your local drive (file://) as well as on an FTP server (ftp://) or on the Internet (http:// or, in the case of an SSL secured page, https://).

    URL / Path
Here you can enter the local path or the correct URL of your desired Start Page. If you do not change anything in this box, usually the predefined local Start Page of SiteKiosk will be displayed.

If you want to deploy HTML pages stored on your local hard drive (file://), you can also specify %SiteKioskPath% as an alternative variable for your installation directory (rather than, e.g. c:/program files/sitekiosk).

Remotely Changing The Start Page (Start Page Service)

Changing local files on the client
If you employ SiteRemote, the easiest way to change the files will be to create a job for the corresponding terminal by uploading an HTML page and thereby overwriting the old file on the client (Upload and overwrite the file and leave the file name as is).

Changing Start Page on the Internet
In this case, you will have to alter the configuration file on the client. If you only want to change the settings of one computer, use the tab Configuration in SiteRemote. If you want to make changes for more than one computer, it will be best to create a job (Changing the SiteKiosk configuration).

Notes and tips:
  1. We recommend specifying an HTML page located on your computer as the Start Page because otherwise a permanent online connection will be necessary.
  2. Click here to learn more about SiteKiosk's different starting modes!
  3. The Start Page can also be displayed in full screen mode.
  4. When you employ the Payment Module, the Start Page will usually be free of charge as long as there is no credit balance available. You can, however, turn the page into a pay site by assigning it to a pay zone.
